For some years The Lions Club of Basingstoke has been privileged to host The Heritage Light Orchestra playing to enthusiastic and returning audiences as part of its entertainment programme. Similarly, and before the Orchestra was formed by Neil Streeter, he had introduced to the Club and its audiences a group of talented performers, a Concert Party appropriately named Swell Party.
The Lions Club provided the first platform for the Orchestra a few years ago when Neil wanted to realise his ambition, born of his experience as Musical Director of BATS, to form his own Orchestra of the best instrumentalists in the local area. The Heritage Light Orchestra has grown in numbers and stature in the intervening years playing frequently in the area and often at The Anvil supporting other musical talents. At this concert, and for the first time, Neil is bringing together the two elements of his origination, the Orchestra and Swell Party for an evening of ‘Song And Dance Music’. The Orchestra will include in their programme amongst others memories of well loved screen musicals, some Jerome Kern and Gershwin pieces and also some popular ballet music. Swell Party, Theresa, Tracy, Mark and Robert will be amusing themselves and the audience with new and original material in an entertainment best described as Music and Mirth.
